The game at the end of the month with the most votes wins. Due to some miscommunication regarding this rule, we will be making some changes and making an extension. While the games are due no later than the end of the month, voting on the game also ends at that time. Applicants should use the same month to market their game and get votes.

In other words, we highly recommend planning to finish games a week (or more!) before the end of the month so that you have time to get votes on your new game. This is a time-challenge contest, so dropping a couple bells and whistles to get the first game on the field is a great strategy if you think it can get good votes without them.

So, we totally failed at making sure our applicants understood this rule, and we apologize. To help make things fair, we are making a small change for this month only. August 31st is still the last day to submit new games for the contest, but the winner will be the applicant that made the game with the highest rating 2 weeks into September (September 14th).

All rankings are determined by the community using the 5-star rating system. We highly recommend telling your friends and colleagues about the game and asking them to vote for you. We have also came to realize that since the winning game is determined by the average rating, a game with one 5-star rating would win to a person with four 5-star ratings and just one 4-star rating - which isn't really fair. So we're adding one more rule. The submitted game must have at least 15 ratings by September 14th for it to be eligible. We wouldn't normally add rules in the middle of a contest, but we feel like it's fair since there are still no submitted games.
