We haven't disclosed very much information about our monthly contests, or even mentioned it publicly until our twitter post - but the monthly contest is a HUGE part of who we are. Does anyone remember the Apple Insomnia Film Festival? We're doing that for flash games, except this one lasts a month long.

Here's the gist:

• Read the new contest rules and requirements on the first of the month.
• Apply for the contest and let us know your name (or team name).
• Make a game, submit it and tell your friends to rate your game.
• The 3 games with the highest ratings at the end of the month wins.

The rules and requirements change to discourage submitting a game that was started prior to the beginning of the contest. A changing requirement may be the genre of the game, the names of particular characters in the game, dialog, etc. But because this our first month, we'll be easy - just make an action game.

Since this is our first contest, we have decided to announce our first game development contest 3 days early to give you time to form a team (if you so choose). Please have respect for other contestants and do not start working on the game until August 1st.

August Requirements:

• Games must fit in the "action" genre.
• Provide a link to Make it Play it and the badge for this contest on an intro or menu page. (The badges are provided after your application is received.)

Prizes:
1st Place: Adobe Flash CS4 for Mac OR PC (worth $700)
2nd Place: $100 Amazon Gift Certificate
3rd Place: 1 Insanely Sarcastic T-Shirt (priceless)

Thank you to Adobe for agreeing to give Flash CS4 to the 1st place winner! It's possible that a 1st place winner would already have Flash CS4 (and you all have legit copies, RIGHT?) If that's the case, you can always sell it and get an iPhone... or two! So, yeah - you can pretty much say that 1st place gets two iPhones (if you want to put us in the same category as #moonfruit).
